Question: When and how do you take a cutting from a hydrangea?

Take your hydrangea cuttings in early morning. Choose a new stem from the current years growth. It will be lighter in color than older stems. For best results, choose a non-flowering stem with lots of leaves. You can use multiple stems or use one stem for several cuttings.

What month do you propagate hydrangeas?

Its best to take your hydrangea cuttings in the spring when the plants metabolism and growth are peaking. Propagating hydrangeas in the spring also allows the cutting a whole growing season to mature into a full-size plant. Set aside time in the early morning or evening to take and plant your cutting.
